In recent years, trust in institutions and organisations at home and abroad has eroded. Interest in them has also declined.

Last week, however, it came as a surprise to learn that more Europeans are interested in the European elections than five years ago! Five percentage points more — 57% — are interested.

The proportion of those who would vote if the elections were held next week has increased by nine percentage points, to 68% of respondents.

Slovenia benefits from its membership of the Union, 83% of its citizens believe.

Europeans and Slovenians have similar preferences on what the Union should do most in the coming years.

The proportion of Europeans who consider migration and asylum to be important has risen by seven percentage points since the previous survey. This figure now stands at 18%.

The European Parliament has lived up to expectations, says its President Roberta Metsola.

“We are fighting poverty, social exclusion and climate change, we are working for jobs, we are working to defend values such as democracy, human rights and freedom of expression," she said.

But they are worried about the future: 73% think their standard of living will get worse in the next year.

The Eurobarometer survey was conducted in the autumn across the EU with 26,523 respondents, including 1,002 in Slovenia.
